Product Designer
Join EQL as a Product Designer: shape merchant and fan experiences for fair, fast launches. Grow your craft in a curious, collaborative team.
Come shape the future of commerce built for passion with us!
At EQL, we’re building tools for brands that don’t just have customers—they have fans.
These are the high-stakes cultural moments where passion runs deep, but the experience has often been broken: sites crash, bots win, and real fans lose out. If you’ve ever tried to score Jordans, Taylor Swift tickets, or a footy final seat, you know the frustration. EQL is changing that. We’re creating the world’s first fair launch platform to help retailers manage demand, block bad actors, and deliver seamless experiences that give real fans a fair shot.
Backed by top VCs and angels, we’re solving big, meaningful problems with smart tech and a bold, collaborative team. It’s challenging and rewarding work, and we’re building a culture where curious, kind, and ambitious people thrive. If you want to help us shape the future of fan-first commerce—even if you don’t tick every box—we would love to talk.
The role
As a Product Designer at EQL, you'll contribute to both sides of our platform - helping craft the operational experiences that merchants rely on, and the fan-facing moments that keep people coming back.
This is a role for someone who is developing their craft and judgment, and wants to grow fast in a team that moves at pace. You'll work closely with a Senior Designer and cross-functional partners, take ownership of well-scoped design challenges, and contribute meaningfully to shipped product from day one. You're comfortable designing for complexity - whether that's a merchant workflow or a fan-facing moment, you know how to prioritise clarity and utility without sacrificing quality.
What You'll Do
Contribute a design lens to problem framing, using empathy mapping and design thinking to understand user challenges, with guidance from senior designers and PMs on scoping and direction.
Stay close to customer feedback and usage patterns, combining qualitative research and data to identify experience improvements, developing the judgment to know when you have enough signal to act.
Own well-defined design challenges end-to-end, from concept through to shipped solutions. Navigate moderate ambiguity with support, balancing user needs against technical and commercial constraints.
Design for both sides of EQL's platform. You're comfortable designing for complexity, whether that's a merchant workflow or a fan-facing moment. You know how to prioritise clarity and utility without sacrificing quality.
Demonstrate strong craft in visual and interaction design, producing high-quality work and developing the ability to articulate and defend your design decisions clearly.
Use AI design and prototyping tools as part of your workflow to accelerate exploration, applying craft judgment to evaluate output quality.
Contribute to EQL's design culture and collaborate cross-functionally - participating actively in design reviews, sharing perspectives, and building alignment with engineering and product partners.
Form opinions grounded in evidence and craft intuition, and stay genuinely open to feedback, iteration, and learning - actively seeking critique as a growth mechanism.
Think in systems and work within EQL's design system, contributing to its evolution while ensuring consistency and scalability across everything you produce.
Support a collaborative team environment - giving and receiving constructive critique, sharing knowledge, and learning from more senior designers around you.
Who we look for
We focus on hiring values-aligned people because we believe mindset matters as much as experience. Curiosity, drive, and a willingness to learn go a long way. Working at EQL means embracing ambiguity, being okay with imperfection, and playing bigger than we are as we solve tough problems together. If that sounds like it gives you energy and are excited to grow with us, we encourage you to apply - even if you're feeling unsure.
We believe you’ll succeed in this role if you have:
Solid experience in product design within a startup or fast-paced software product environment, with a portfolio that shows shipped work - not just concepts.
Demonstrated ability to design for complexity - multi-state workflows, information-dense UIs, task-oriented experiences. B2B background is desirable but not required; what matters is evidence of this capability in your background.
Strong visual design skills with a developing understanding of typography, layout, colour, and interaction - and the ability to talk through the principles behind your decisions.
Ability to take a well-scoped problem from brief to shipped solution with growing independence, showing good judgment about trade-offs along the way.
Familiarity with AI-augmented design tools and willingness to integrate them into your workflow - with the craft judgment to evaluate output quality.
Comfort working within and contributing to a design system, with an eye for consistency and scalability.
Experience working closely with engineers and product managers, with an understanding of how technical and business constraints shape design decisions.
A curious, research-informed approach - you use feedback, data, and observation to sharpen your work, not just validate it.
Collaborative and coachable - you give and receive critique well, and you actively seek feedback as a tool for growth.
What we offer
Fairness is not just something for our fans and retailers - it’s part of who we are which is why:
We provide equity in EQL - we want our team to have skin in the game and to be as invested as we are in EQL’s success. We want the people that will make EQL successful to share in that success
We provide competitive compensation and evaluate the market to ensure that remains true.
We provide a flexible work environment because we understand that everyone works differently and want to support our team to be their best
We provide generous time off above and beyond what we are required to because we know that well-rested people make better decisions and are more engaged - when you thrive we thrive
